Aaron Rai, a 31-year-old English golfer ranked outside the world's top 40, won his first major championship at the 2026 PGA Championship on May 17 at Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania. Rai, who carried no previous top-15 finishes at a major and held just one PGA Tour title, surged from three shots off the lead at the turn of the final round by making an eagle on the par-5 ninth and one-putting seven consecutive greens. He sealed a 5-under 65 and a three-shot win over Jon Rahm, finishing at 9-under par.
Rai became the first English-born player to win the PGA Championship since 1919 and the first player of Indian heritage to win any major. His victory emerged from a historically deep final-round leaderboard: a record 22 players had been within four shots of the lead entering Sunday, creating the conditions in which a less-heralded player could capitalize.
